We always got a small box of cereal in our Christmas stocking. We never got them at any other time, so it was special. We had to eat our box of cereal before we could open any other presents. That way my mom made sure we had at least something to eat on a day filled with candy and junk food.Kayeleen Hamblinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07652280450104899423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5189127202681971190.post-6968448048122825522011-12-11T10:20:55.174-06:002011-12-11T10:20:55.174-06:00Oops! So it's not necessarily my favorite tradition, but one we make sure we celebrate every year - taking my kids and our Christmas dinner to his work's break room. We eat good food and open a gift each. Being together is important, not necessarily the surroundings. :)
ericaerica and christyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13074820593371226159noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5189127202681971190.post-63860369086033459552011-12-10T10:40:01.016-06:002011-12-10T10:40:01.016-06:00My favorite holiday tradition is getting the Chris...My favorite holiday tradition is getting the Christmas tree. Some years the whole family has trekked into the wilds with snow boots and shovels, spurred on by the thought of a post-tree-cutting lunch at a cozy nearby pub. Some years I indulge my father-in-law's love of a good bargain and go on safari to find the cheapest tree in the tri-county area. (Gas be damned!) Last year, I got a $10 noble fir that had fallen out of a helicoptor while being airlifted to Mexico. It looked in good shape, and gave me countless opportunities for good storytelling fodder over the holidays.

Thanks for the giveaway, Hilary. I'm following you via GFC as Mercedes!

My dad had a crazy work schedule and we usually didn't get to open our presents until about 3 in the afternoon. It was TORTURE. To make it more bearable, Mom let us stay up as late as we could on Christmas Eve. We'd watch movies, run around in our Christmas Eve pajamas, and carry on. Then my brother and I would climb into the bunk beds, no matter how old we were, and we'd talk late into the night. It was kind of a yearly connect for us, especially when we were older. Santa always left our stockings on the foot of our beds. Oh, favorite traditions! ...Happy Holidays Hilary!

Oh, favorite traditions! There are so many great ones here!
Besides watching "White Christmas" on Christmas eve and hoping for a pretty snowfall to happen JUST when it does in the film (which it has... a couple of times over the years...) my sisters and I share "Fuzzy Wuzzy". He was our father's tiny little bear that he received from his sister, our aunt, before his appendix was removed when he was just 4.
Once we came along, Fuzzy started living in the Christmas tree. Had outfits made for him, cowboy hats sent from places like Arizona, and always always was hidden somewhere in the branches... the first of the four of us to find him got to dress him up and help hide him the next year.
Fuzzy is just like that old rhyme now... not very fuzzy any more. Now that dad is gone, we share him. Sending him between our homes (3 in NY and me in TN) to live in each of our trees every year. Dad's birthday was yesterday, the 8th. He would have been 60. I have fuzzy this year, and he happily wears a new green and red scarf for the occasion, looking out over my girls gifts beneath the tree he's comfy sitting in... in a chair made just for him too. :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16527843996197368747noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5189127202681971190.post-6298714744648568082011-12-09T09:36:52.017-06:002011-12-09T09:36:52.017-06:00Ketutar, yes open to everyone! :)Ketutar, yes open to everyone! :)Hilary Wagnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18199287020561210673noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5189127202681971190.post-9434000735566420782011-12-09T09:34:06.397-06:002011-12-09T09:34:06.397-06:00Is this open for Europeans too?
