Office Cat Wants You In His Office NOW!

Most of us have full-time jobs, kids, spouses, laundry, a lawn to mow, soccer games, karate, bills (hate that one), oh, and we need time to sleep. As a writer, how the heck do you balance it all? Do you squeeze in writing where you can or do you have a specific time or day you allow (or force) yourself to write? People ask me how I get me books written. I can attribute a lot to that old adage, If you want something done ask a busy person. Well, the adage goes something like that anyway! It's true, though, on a lazy day where I have all the time in the world, I tend to get nothing done...not even the laundry. Okay, especially the laundry. Funny how that works! ;)

  1. For me, it's all about multi-tasking: blogging while at work (shhh), revising while I'm supposedly watching TV with my family (shhh), brainstorming while on the treadmill at the gym, etc.

    1. Working out really helps me. Whenever I have a block, a good thirty minutes on the treadmill has helped me break through it!

I set aside different times of the day for different things. Morning is editing; afternoon is writing new material; evening is revising - glass of wine compulsory!

    1. Hi, Lenny!

I will finish yours only if you finish mine!! School will be out soon, luckily. So you can write ALL summer, you lucky dog! :)

  7. LOL! I get more done when I'm busy too. I like to edit outside and write inside. Weird, huh?

    1. Ha! I'm in a different mind set when I edit too, so I could totally see editing in a different place! I think we are both weird! :)

    2. Not really wierd--your editor lives outside and your writer mind lives inside. I personally keep my inner editor locked up in a teeny tiny closet, with chains so she can't escape until I'm ready to let her out.

  8. I used to write on my breaks, at lunch, on the bus (or at stoplights :). I even dream in complete story lines, although if I don't write them down they get away quickly.

And forget about laundry, when the muse strikes! I consider it highly commendible that I manage to get anything done besides writing.
